Genre : Bass, Ambient, Experimental, Hip-Hop

We have always admired the music of San Diego-based Go Yama, so when he hit us up to see if we were keen to release his special tribute to the great Hayao Miyazaki, we simply couldn't refuse. For those who might not be familiar, Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, animator, manga artist, illustrator, producer, and screenwriter. Miyazaki has attained international acclaim as a maker of anime feature films and, along with Isao Takahata, co-founded Studio Ghibli, a film and animation studio. The success of Miyazaki's films has invited comparisons with American animator Walt Disney, British animator Nick Park, and American director Steven Spielberg.
So being huge fans of his works, we took an immediate interest in Go Yama's proposition, and after listening at length to his tribute, we are really glad to be putting this out as an official DTW release. With this tribute, Go Yama clearly displays his abilities to interpret Miyazaki's works in a variety of ways - From heavy bass takes, silky boom-bap to dreamy 4/4 cuts, he keeps us constantly on our toes and we are pretty sure that the master would have been very proud if he had a chance to listen to it.

The Ep will be released officially via our Bandcamp page on the 28th of Feb, but we are taking pre-orders now, with the Single 'Miniature Ponyo Souls' to be given as a Free Download.

about

Darker Than Wax Singapore

With Darker Than Wax, the music has been reduced to its most concentrated form.
It’s pretty pure and simple really. It's basically a statement. A statement on the pervasiveness of black music and the influence it has had on countless genres.
A statement that it’s all about bringing it into the future.
A statement that music should have depth.
Expression and uninhibited creativity is the key.
